Reflections

30 Dec

During my run the day after Christmas, I came upon this sunset and couldn’t help but reflect on the season. After a wonderful holiday with family, I find myself feeling incredibly grateful for the true gifts that make life so worthwhile – the kind that you don’t unwrap but get to carry in your heart always. Sunset 12_26The more I thought about the past year, the more my heart grew in gratitude. Of course, each year brings its personal challenges and 2013 was certainly no exception. However, those challenges pale in comparison to the abundant triumphs and blessings. From the everyday to the extraordinary, this year has been full of things to be thankful for.

2013 brought an anniversary to celebrate the first year of a marriage that continues to grow stronger day by day.

The first of many, many happy years to come.

Multiple running goals set and surpassed, including 3 half marathons, many PR’s, and new race distances tackled.

3 Half Marathons this year!

3 Half Marathons this year!

An unforgettable trip to various cities in Italy.

So many incredible moments in Italy!

So many incredible moments in Italy!

And countless precious moments in between.

It's the little things...

It’s the little things.

It’s been a great year.

It's been a good year.

Looking forward to what else is in store!

As the sun sets on this year, I will take only what is important and necessary from the challenges I faced and leave the rest behind. I will treasure all that was wonderful in 2013 and continue to focus on gratitude and enjoying the present moment in the year to come.

An extra rest day

7 Sep

My foot was a little sore on Friday afternoon, so I took an extra rest day. I’m trying this thing where I really listen to my body and switch things up when it tells me to.

It can be hard for many of us runners to take a day off without feeling anxious about its impact on training. I am not afraid to take a rest day.

Sometimes rest days can even be the best days.

Thursday evening we took advantage of my workday ending earlier than usual and the beautiful weather and went for a walk.

We'll be newlyweds forever.

Friday was just as beautiful and we went for another walk, this time to the coffee house for pumpkin chai lattes.

Fall is my favorite.

I just got this bright scarf from Kohl’s for about $9 to add to my Italy wardrobe. Or I just might wear it every day…

It’s not only important to listen to your body, sometimes we just need to take advantage of extra time and be with those we love. The run will be waiting.

Now we are on our way to visit friends and go on a hike. I’m planning a 10 mile run for Sunday afternoon, so we’ll see how this goes!

Are you afraid to take extra rest days?

Happy birthday, Mark!

25 Aug

Today is a very special day for a very special person – it’s Mark’s birthday! We have been celebrating him all weekend and I want to add to that by honoring him with his very own blog post.

Happy birthday to a wonderful husband who works hard but loves harder, enjoys life with passion and laughter, and is not afraid to dream while keeping his feet on the ground. He is my best friend and biggest supporter and I am so grateful for all the things he is and does!

Markbdaydinner rbbHe is a great coach. Whether it is biking alongside on long runs, encouraging me to stick to my training plan, checking my stats, making up songs to keep me going, or giving me a much needed high five during a race, he’s always there.

coachmark wmHe supports my passion for running in so many ways. When I’m thinking of a race he always tells me I can do it, never complains (even when we have to get up at 3:00 AM to make it there), takes hundreds of photos, and greets me with a huge hug at every finish line.

postracehubbyHe’s helped me through the most difficult times as well as shared with me the happiest adventures. He has brought such love and joy to my life and I look forward to spending the rest of forever with him.
