Monday Meditation: Earn every mile

18 Mar

Happy Monday, everyone! Today’s meditation comes from Master runner and training coach Pete Magill.

“No one is born a perfect runner. And none of us will become one. But through incremental steps, we can become better runners. And that’s the beauty of our sport: There are no shortcuts, nothing is given to us; we earn every mile, and we earn every result.”

-Pete Magill

Did you know Pete ran a 1:10:19 half marathon at age 51? He also holds a lot of records for being incredibly fast in his age group. Talk about earning your results!

If there is one absolute truth about running, it’s that every mile we log and every result we turn out is earned. We push beyond the comfort zone, compete against ourselves, and embark on physical and mental challenges along the way. This is why I’m a big fan of finisher medals. Even if you don’t come in first, every single step it took to cross that finish line was a result of hard work and strength. You did that. Wear those miles like a badge of honor!

Either my cough medicine is making me loopy, or you have a typo. A 1:10 marathon? Really? =)

I do love the quote by Mr. Magill, though. =)

Should say HALF marathon, whoops. Thanks for the catch. I’ll fix that.
