Birthday fun (parte dos)

3 Feb

For the final birthday festivities we met a few of my friends  last night at Boca Bistro, a Spanish tapas restaurant that I’ve been wanting to try since it opened in Summer 2012.

20130203-124516.jpgIn one word, this place is AMAZING. First, the decor has a rustic vintage feel and the ambiance was warm (it would have been warmer if the door didn’t keep opening and letting in the cold air!). Second, the food is beyond incredible and the sangria is delicious!

We filled the table with a big variety of tapas (traditional Spanish small plates), white sangria, wine, beer, and bread and olive oil.

20130203-124452.jpgOn my plate: chorizo pomplona (sausage), manchego cheese with almonds and quince paste, berenjenas fritas (eggplant fries) with sesame honey drizzle, broccolini, and huevos fritos con chorizo y patatas (fried egg with sausage and potatoes). Absolutely everything was delicious. I was in heaven with all the great flavors and textures.

20130203-124502.jpgDessert was a crema Catalana – caramelized custard with citrus and cinnamon. We also snagged a few bites of our friends’ churros.  To. Die. For.

After we finally finished polishing off every last crumb of food and dessert off our plates, we headed to The Wine Bar to relax with one more drink.

20130203-124539.jpgI didn’t have time to take a picture of my fancy birthday hair and makeup before leaving the house, so this is the best I can offer:

20130203-124529.jpgIn case you were wondering (admit it, you were), I curled my hair all in ringlets and then bobby pinned it all to one side and topped it off with a black feather fascinator. My eyes were smokey purple with black eyeliner, but you can’t really tell that from this photo. Basically, I looked awesome.

It was a relaxing evening with some of my best friends and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better way to start off my 28th year! 28 truly is great and I’m looking forward to what the rest of the year has in store!

Today’s run: an easy, late morning, sunny run. The kind where you pass by several people walking, running, or taking their dog around and everyone smiles at you and says, “Good morning.” Perfect Sunday run.

3.45 miles | 30:53 total time | 8:58 avg pace

Now, we’re making these homemade sea salted caramels and getting ready for a all-you-can eat Super Bowl party!

Thank you! I just started reading yours, too – love it!

I feel I might need to eat tapas every weekend (or daily…). SO good!
